Old hands in the business will tell you that getting the balance of form and function right is about as intriguing a challenge as it can get for a designer. But DB&B pulled it off so astutely for global automotive supplier Hella Asia in 2006 for their Singapore office that two years on, they were called upon to do the same for the German-based company’s office in Shanghai.
To design and build Hella’s multi-functional space at the East Ocean Centre, DB&B combined the core design values of its Singapore office with a simplicity that is alternately pristine and alluring. The team also chose to invest every specific area with individual design characteristics. Hella’s corporate colours of blue and yellow are in full display at the reception area, as are an assortment of automotive materials. The general office radiates a style and openness that provides employees with a conducive environment to work and interact. Meanwhile, thanks to the well-laid glass windows, sun rays sneak into the pantry and reception area, enveloping the place in a warm glow. At the end of the day, both the team and clients were well pleased with the overall image of a fuss-free environment, complete with tasteful design and an immaculate layout.
